The SIAC and Claflin University Team Up to Prepare Student-Athletes for the Future
Recognizing the need for today’s student-athletes to be prepared for the world after graduation, the SIAC and Claflin University contracted with “Athletes4hire.com”, to educate the student-athletes concerning the importance of preparing oneself, for the competitive world, after their eligibility has expired.
Mr. DJ Washington the representative for “Athletes4hire.com” held a two day seminar on the Claflin University campus, September 18-19, 2007.
Mr. Washington stated the company’s mission was to unite graduating and former collegiate athletes with employers who value and seek their skills by building the most advantageous, efficient, and opportunistic career services organization. The services that are provided the student-athletes are: Trait Analysis, Resume Writing, Interviewing Tips, and Selling Yourself.
The Seminar consisted of two sessions on the first day, one session for Freshmen and Sophomores, and the second session for Juniors and Seniors.
The sessions gave the student-athletes an overview of “Athletes4hire.com.” He also encouraged each student-athlete to cultivate a positive self image, that will be necessary to compete for employment in a Fortune 500 company, in today’s global society.
Individual sessions were set up on day two, for the student-athletes to get personal guidance from Mr. Washington. Some points of interest that were covered: types of jobs available, salary of graduates entering the work force, developing a solid resume, and understanding what an employer is really looking for.
The student-athletes and Claflin University enjoyed the experience of having a company such as “Athletes4hire.com”, come and share vital information which will enhance their opportunities to become successful upon graduation.
