OUR PROGRAMS

Our Career Educational Programs help prepare the student-athletes for their future challenging job search process by assisting them in recognizing and articulating the unique skill set that they have acquired through athletic participation. This skill set, which the athletes often have not identified or acknowledged, is quite attractive to many companies.

During a Two-Day Visit
CRG conducts two one-hour SCORE seminars during the first evening. The underclassmen seminar is entitled Developing Your Career Game Plan. The upperclassmen seminar is entitled How to Sell Yourself as a Student-Athlete. The following day, personalized career coaching sessions are conducted to provide proper interview and resume critique to interested juniors and graduating seniors.

Freshman/Sophomore Seminar:
Developing your Career Game Plan: What will make you attractive to an organization?
This seminar encourages underclassmen to take an assertive role in their personal career development. Discussions take place regarding what organizations are looking for in graduates today, resume preparation, how to network and differentiate themselves, advice on the selection of electives, summer jobs and internships, as well as frank dialog about competition that student-athletes face in the job-seeking process.

Junior/Senior Seminar:
How to Sell Yourself as an Athlete: Creating the Competitive Advantage
Aimed at upperclassmen, this original Athletes4hire.com feature seminar presentation educates student-athletes on their unique skill set and how to articulate these skills and traits in an interview situation. Topics covered in this seminar are: knowing your competition, identifying skills learned through athletic participation and how to use these skills in an interview, networking, preparation for an interview, and how to differentiate yourself to name a few. This seminar is accompanied by the Career Preparation Manual, a comprehensive publication which provides tips, exercises, and sample resumes.

Personalized Career Coaching Sessions
Provide an opportunity for upperclassman student-athletes to have their interviewing skills critiqued as well as other professional guidance which includes resume review and general career advice.

ADDITIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS

Career Development & Leadership Program for Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
Our policy has been not to charge for conference SAAC groups on a one/two day, one-site format. If a conference is willing to help with travel expenses, we utilize SAAC opportunities as a way to open doors for future on-campus activity with conference member institutions. Personalized career coaching may be offered at the time convenience of the conference office.

Career Development & Transitional Program for Professional Teams/Leagues
This session focuses on the most important aspects of career training and development, and continues to be presented in an interactive style with which the professional athletes can relate. The goal is not to overwhelm the athletes but to leave an impact on them with the importance of having a plan, performing the necessary things to be prepared for a career change (i.e.: off-season/career related experiences, leadership, networking, etc.), and differentiating themselves. Personalized career coaching sessions are often used to enhance the readiness of these players regardless of their next chosen career.

CAMPUS VISIT FOLLOW-UP

  • Campus contacts receive thank you packets that include posters, post cards, documentation of how to place an A4H link on the school’s website, etc.
  • Student-athletes receive continuous follow-up with exclusive A4H trainer toward career consultation, resume assistance and placement activity long after their NCAA eligibility has expired (student-athletes are encouraged to initiate primary follow-up; we try to support each institution’s position toward student-athletes taking the initiative).
  • Student-athletes that have been identified as a “higher placeable” candidate (Team Captains, SAAC Presidents/Vice Presidents, campus leaders, etc.) traditionally have opportunities to interview with higher profile companies that tend to interview and potentially hire candidates after their NCAA eligibility has exhausted.
  • Student-athletes receive further email notifications, career updates and tips regarding career preparation and transition into the workforce, upon completion of the campus visit program.
