Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name,
Introduction Paragraph: This paragraph lets the hiring manager know what position you are applying for and how you heard about the position. This is also an opportunity to let the hiring manager know why they should select you for an interview. Be sure to include any information about the company or any personal contacts you know within the company/organization.
First Paragraph: Describe your qualifications, skills, achievements, and experiences. Pick the most relevant qualifications on your resume as they relate to the position. Make sure you discuss in detail. Do Not Repeat Your Resume. This is an opportunity to establish a connection between your experience and the requirements for the position. Indicate how your background/experiences best qualify you for the position.
Second Paragraph: Describe why you would be a great fit for the position and how you would be an asset to the company. Do your research on the company in order to express why you have an interest in the company and the position (i.e. the products they sell, growth of the company, etc.). This shows the employer that you have a true interest and are not just copying and pasting a cover letter and resume.
Final Paragraph: Thank the hiring manager for their time and consideration. Make sure you include that you would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the position with their company. Indicate that you have enclosed your resume with additional information about your qualifications. Let them know how they can contact you by phone or email.
Sincerely,
(hand written signature if mailed)
